Position Overview

Under the general oversight of the Chief Engineer, the Facilities Engineer will engage in a range of skilled tasks related to the management and upkeep of the facility's mechanical and electrical systems as well as general operations.

This role offers an hourly wage ranging from $30 to $40.

Responsibilities
  • Support all services and tasks related to the upkeep of the facility, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • Repair and refurbish various equipment such as motors, compressors, and ice machines.
  • Adhere to the preventive maintenance program, energy management program, and standard operating procedures for all machinery and equipment.
  • Carry out maintenance tasks such as re-lamping, replacing ceiling tiles, filters, and belts as necessary.
  • Document and log all work performed, complete work order slips, and compile required reports promptly.
  • Assist other divisions within the Operations Department to facilitate event conversions as required.
  • Encourage a safe working environment for all staff by following life safety and emergency protocols.
  • Interpret performance charts and control panels to assess the efficiency of each system.
  • Respond to routine, precautionary, and emergency alarms from building automation and life safety systems.
  • Maintain the interior and exterior walls of the entire complex, including drywall repairs, sanding, and repainting.
  • Foster effective working relationships with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered during employment.
  • Manage inventory of paint and supplies.
  • Ensure the superior appearance and operational condition of all MEP systems assigned to the Engineering Department.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the physical facility, including recognizing issues or deficiencies, developing solutions, and recommending workflow efficiencies.
  • Recommend improvements to current facility operations, protocols, processes, and best practices, including suggestions on scheduling and sequencing based on facility usage, budget reductions, and safety enhancements.
  • Effectively troubleshoot unexpected challenges, including assisting emergency authorities in a composed manner.
  • Occasionally enter areas where fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals may be present.
  • Engage in frequent bending, carrying, moving, climbing, and working from various heights, lifting 15-50 pounds, sitting, and extensive walking throughout the building.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to demonstrate the capability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and three (3) years of full-time experience in a facility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical support school or advanced electrical or refrigeration courses are preferred.
  • Comprehension of the methods, principles, and practices necessary for the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for anticipated events.
  • Knowledge of general plumbing, electrical wiring, and ventilation systems to assist HVAC and Electrical technicians as needed.
  • Understanding of building management system controls that monitor and operate environmental, lighting, and life safety systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with door hardware, locks, key machines, door closers, etc.
  • Possession of any licenses, certificates, or training required by local, state, or national authorities for operating equipment found in the facility. Must be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and related materials.
  • Adherence to all safety precautions, building codes, rules, regulations, risk management, and emergency procedures.
  • Capability to operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, scrubbing machines, or other light power-driven equipment.
  • Ability to operate monitoring controls and a personal computer (light use) utilizing 24/7 Work Order System Windows and Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience with LEAN Six Sigma philosophies and 5s System is advantageous.
  • Ability to follow explicit oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with others in both oral and written forms.
  • Flexibility to adjust to situations as they arise.
  • Ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
  • Capacity to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, professional, and courteous manner, fostering a positive and cooperative work environment.
