Bessemer Trust is looking for a skilled attorney specializing in labor and employment law to join our legal team in New York City. This role will report directly to the General Counsel and will be responsible for providing expert legal advice on employment-related issues, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.

This position is perfect for a proactive and dedicated attorney who thrives in a collaborative setting and possesses extensive experience in various labor relations topics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Offer legal guidance on a wide array of labor, employment, and benefits issues, encompassing recruitment, onboarding, training, diversity and inclusion initiatives, performance evaluations, terminations, employee relations, regulatory adherence, complaints, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Prepare and assess offer letters, separation agreements, company policies, employee handbooks, and documentation related to benefit plans.
  • Support governance related to compensation and benefit plans and assist relevant committees.
  • Stay informed about changes in employment regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Collaborate in managing and supervising engagements with external legal counsel for relevant matters.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and a member in good standing of the New York bar.
  • Over 10 years of experience in employment law, either in a law firm or in-house; experience in the financial services sector is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound judgment, practical decision-making abilities, and a high level of integrity.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and tasks effectively.

The compensation range for this role is between $300K and $350K, with actual salaries depending on various factors such as skills, experience, and qualifications. It is uncommon for offers to be made at or near the upper end of this range.

This position may also qualify for a discretionary performance-based bonus, contingent on individual and company results.

Eligible employees can participate in a 401(k) plan with a company profit-sharing contribution, along with medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and paid time off for holidays, vacations, and sick days.
