POSITION SUMMARY

This role is dedicated to delivering direct peer assistance to families facing housing instability or those who have recently secured housing. Utilizing the Strengthening Families™ 5 Protective Factor Framework, the Peer Assistance Specialist motivates and supports participants through a strength-based, trauma-informed methodology aimed at enhancing social and emotional wellbeing. This position leverages personal experiences to provide valuable support while delivering billable services.

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Supportive Family Services (SFS) team offers a comprehensive suite of services tailored to provide personalized support for families experiencing homelessness. This team includes case managers, youth enrichment specialists, and peer support staff who deliver holistic services. Key interventions encompass assistance with housing acquisition, income enhancement, and leveraging the resilience of families through caregiver groups, family-oriented activities, and youth enrichment initiatives. Building community connections and enhancing knowledge and skills are vital outcomes of our services.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate Strengthening Families™ 5 Protective Factor Framework Parent and Community Cafes.
  • Plan and execute engaging family activities that reinforce the Strengthening Families™ model.
  • Establish effective relationships with families to support their needs.
  • Develop and model independent living skills aligned with participants' care plans.
  • Guide participants in navigating community resources effectively.
  • Collaborate with case management and clinical teams to help families achieve their goals.
  • Monitor and document participant progress according to individualized treatment plans.
  • Serve as a role model, sharing life experiences that inspire hope.
  • Provide support through community engagement to foster social skills and belonging.
  • Assist in crisis intervention when necessary, coordinating with emergency services as needed.
  • Adapt to changing environments and creatively meet the needs of participants.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience: One year in human services, customer service, or related fields. Lived experience in addiction recovery, homelessness, or overcoming mental health challenges, with a minimum of two years of sobriety, may substitute for required experience.

Must obtain certification as a Peer Support Associate as defined by the State of Alaska within six months of onboarding.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily conducted in an office setting, with frequent visits to community support locations. Physical demands include occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and the ability to participate in recreational activities with participants. A valid driver's license and insured vehicle are required, along with flexibility in work hours.
