Job Summary

Yale University Library seeks a highly skilled Central Collection Strategist to join the Scholarly Communication and Collection Strategy department. The successful candidate will contribute to a comprehensive collection development strategy, overseeing operational responsibilities for collections fund management, collection development training, and vendor relations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage central collection development funds, collaborating with committees and librarians to select and renew e-resources and oversee monographic approvals.
  • Coordinate collection development and management of the Bass Library collection and Sterling Memorial Library's Starr and L&B Reading Room.
  • Guide and support the operational aspects of collection development in all formats, including workflows, assessment, and project management.
  • Collaborate with librarians and library units to develop new strategies and methodologies for resource acquisition, management, and assessment.
  • Serve as the library's key point of contact for vendors, negotiating the acquisition of new resources and communicating with vendors to explore and prepare information for library groups.
  • Participate in the development and revision of YUL policies and guidelines related to collection development and management.
  • Lead the internal training and education program for staff with collection development responsibilities.
  • Manage public- and staff-facing collection development web presences.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited Library school and three years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in collection development and knowledge of scholarly publishing practices and trends.
  • Ability to manage budgets, design and manage projects, and bring them to a successful conclusion.
  • Excellent analytical skills, proficiency in Excel, and experience using quantitative and/or qualitative data to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across organizational units.
  • Experience providing training and creating documentation, as well as experience with vendor relations and communications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and negotiating license agreements.
