Patient Care Associate

Under the direction of a registered/licensed nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team assists in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out patient care plans as directed by Registered Nurses.
- Provide patient physical care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linen, per established guidelines.
- Perform patient monitoring activities, such as vital signs and blood glucose, per established guidelines.
- Prepare patients for meals and assist with meeting their needs.
- Perform patient rounds regularly and answer call lights promptly to meet patients' needs.
- Document patient care in a timely manner, adhering to established standards.
- Organize patient room clutter to maintain a clean environment.
- Obtain and label specimens consistent with established procedures.
- Provide mentoring and teaching to new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
- Complete additional department, organization, or network activities per established objectives.

- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required, unless candidate holds a nursing assistant certification.
- Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care required.
- Enrollment in a Nursing, Pre-Med, or Physician Assistant undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire, preferred.
- Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire, preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
- Basic skills in math and computer science.
- Ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.
- Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.
- Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
The Patient Care Associate will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members. The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical RequirementsThe Patient Care Associate will be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands requiring fine motor skills and sense of touch, move/rotate/bend wrists, type/use keyboard or other data entry device, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladder or other equipment, drive/operate motor vehicle, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl, speak, hear, taste, smell, touch, and have vision requirements including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Safety EquipmentThe Patient Care Associate will be required to wear safety equipment, including safety glasses, gowns, filter lens, scrubs, face shields, boots, ear plugs or mufflers, hard hat, surgical mask/dust mask, coveralls, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and gloves.
Level of NoiseThe Patient Care Associate will work in a moderate noise environment.
