POSITION OVERVIEW

The Laboratory Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the global strategy for the Molding Compounds Medical Market and Automotive segment. This position is essential for driving growth in the Americas and facilitating future global expansion. The manager will provide specialized knowledge in compounding and molding processes, serving as the primary expert in product and application development, including scaling up and transitioning to production.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development of new acrylic compounds, acting as the subject matter expert.
  • Oversee workshop technicians in the operation and maintenance of molding, extrusion, and related equipment.
  • Produce, compound, or extrude materials for the Technical Department to support various projects, marketing initiatives, or sales requirements.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in compounding and extrusion technologies, making informed recommendations regarding equipment capabilities and potential upgrades.
  • Collaborate closely with the Technical team in Germany to ensure alignment on best practices and knowledge transfer.
  • Maintain and update work instructions, creating new documentation as necessary.
  • Assist in scaling up new products for the manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a graduate degree is preferred, with a focus on plastic processing, polymer/material science, or chemical engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in polymer processing, including compounding and injection molding.
  • Proficiency in polymer characterization, particularly in rheology and mechanical properties.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to work with machinery are essential.
  • Experience with compounding equipment is mandatory, as is familiarity with injection molding processes.
  • Knowledge of processes such as thermoforming or extrusion is advantageous.
  • Statistical knowledge or experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) is beneficial.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment; prior experience in people management is a plus.
  • Strong written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is expected; experience with SAP is a plus.
  • A commitment to quality and safety is essential.
