As a Clinical Laboratory Technician, you will collaborate within our clinical laboratories alongside Medical Technologists, reporting directly to the Core Lab Manager. Your primary responsibilities will include the handling and processing of blood specimens and bodily fluids, which encompasses:
centrifugation, decapping, loading of instrument cassettes, and routing specimens to designated areas and instruments. You will also be tasked with accurately logging specimens into the laboratory information system.

Office Responsibilities:
Your role will involve various office functions such as filing and faxing patient reports.

It is essential to work effectively with customers, addressing specimen or laboratory-related inquiries promptly to ensure optimal patient care.

You will be responsible for data retrieval and conducting some waived testing of samples, entering results into the computer system.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication Skills/Customer Service:
You will handle incoming calls for information.

Transmit laboratory testing results to the appropriate healthcare team members upon request, ensuring the laboratory fulfills its mission of delivering excellent patient care while maintaining confidentiality.


1.1 Exhibit strong customer service by answering calls within three (3) rings, introducing yourself and your department, and asking, 'How may I assist you?' Always seek permission from the caller before placing them on hold.

Aim to receive no more than two relevant complaints from customers.

Specimen Management:
You will receive, sort, redirect, accession, and process specimens to guarantee timely reporting of results. Ensure accurate patient identification and possess the ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the Roche MPA7 instrumentation.

2.1 Adhere to established sample handling guidelines and standard precautions, triaging to the appropriate area promptly.

Performance Standards:
No more than two sample processing errors should occur, and there should be no errors related to patient identification.

Computer Proficiency:
Utilize laboratory and hospital-based computer programs to ensure precise data entry and retrieval. Identify and address issues, malfunctions, or downtime situations. Communicate and assist computer operations to resolve documented problems.

3.1 Proficiently use all computer-based systems and recognize malfunctions, communicating issues to computer operations.

Performance Standards:
Demonstrate the ability to resolve problems independently.

Laboratory Support Duties:
Carry out various ancillary functions to support laboratory operations.

4.1 When necessary, you will be responsible for faxing reports to authorized healthcare providers and completing required documentation in accordance with departmental policies and compliance guidelines.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION
A high school diploma is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences or a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE
Two years of relevant hospital laboratory experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Standing 75%, walking 50%, lifting up to 25 lbs., and the ability to open and close sample carriers for up to 2 hours. Familiarity with computer systems and medical terminology is essential.

Exceptional customer service skills are required, including:
communication skills, telephone etiquette, and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail is crucial. The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively is necessary. Flexibility in scheduling will be required.
