We are seeking a highly qualified Turfgrass Management Instructor to join our team at Guilford Technical Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching turfgrass management, landscape, and/or horticulture courses designed for career technical programs.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and teach departmental courses, including developing learner-centered lesson plans and employing teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles.
- Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments.
- Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
- Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, and instructional media.
- Conduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field and advance teaching skills and strategies.
AdministrationThe Instructor will provide daily and ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records, including maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces, providing for the security of facilities and equipment, and maintaining student records.
Student SupportThe Instructor will provide an environment conducive to student success, addressing student concerns in a timely manner, promoting retention and persistence, and referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate.
Requirements- Associate's degree in Turfgrass Management Technology or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- 3 years of relevant industry experience in turfgrass management or a related field.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management Technology or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Post-secondary teaching and/or industry training experience.
- Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes and distance learning.
The Instructor will work in a variety of settings, including classrooms, laboratories, and outdoor environments. The position requires the ability to work in a lab/shop setting that is not climate controlled and to operate heavy equipment associated with the program.
Additional RequirementsThe successful candidate will be required to complete mandatory GTCC trainings and annual updates as required.
