Operations Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. This includes managing the receiving, warehousing, dispatching, and delivery of Action Gypsum Supply material orders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategically manage the warehouse to ensure compliance with company vision and values.
  • Coordinate deliveries with employees to promote efficiency, accuracy, and safety.
  • Provide professional, friendly, and detailed status updates to customers and employees through various communication channels.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of orders.
  • Maintain regular contact with delivery crews to ensure successful job completion and estimated time of return to the warehouse.
  • Enter all delivery information into the dispatch software system.
  • Manage data entry and paperwork required for the company POS system, Agility.
  • Create back orders for incomplete deliveries and communicate with customers and salespersons.
  • Maintain organized delivery records.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and enforce optimal operational policies and procedures.
  • Manage inventory security and work with the inventory department on inventory counts.
  • Ensure timely invoicing of deliveries, pickups, and direct orders.
  • Create daily/weekly warehouse employee schedules to maximize efficiency and profitability.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations and monitor safety programs.
  • Manage a team of employees, including hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions.
  • Meet regularly with company management to review and assess branch status.

Work Environment:

The Operations Manager will work in an indoor office environment with a temperature-controlled setting. The position requires sitting, standing, and walking intermittently. The ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell is required. Occasionally lifting or moving up to 30 pounds may be necessary. The position may also require operating a forklift and other equipment and tools.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated breadth and depth of warehouse operations and expertise.
  • Ability to manage relationships with customers, employees, and other leaders to impart expertise and serve as a subject matter expert.
  • Ability to get work done through others and effectively lead a team of employees.
  • Exercise cultural awareness, including race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and disability.
  • Skilled at communicating clearly both verbally and in writing, including providing non-technical assistance in a simple, straightforward manner.

Education and Experience:

A High School diploma or equivalent is required, with a Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred. A minimum of 5 years' experience managing a warehouse operation and 2 years' experience supervising a staff are required. The ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently, and communicate verbally and in writing at a professional level, is essential. Bilingualism is a plus. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other basic computer programs is required.
