Senior Logistics and Transportation Supervisor

The Senior Logistics and Transportation Supervisor will cultivate a department culture centered on personnel, safety, service excellence, and cost efficiency through meaningful interactions with transportation leaders and team members. Utilizing their extensive knowledge in logistics operations, they will guarantee safe, precise, and timely outbound shipments to clients and other distribution hubs within the organization, while fostering a secure work environment for all staff.

Work Schedule: Standard workweek is Monday to Friday, with a typical start time of 6 AM (subject to change based on operational needs).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Attain all safety, service, and cost objectives within the transportation division. Promote a safety-first mentality ensuring that every associate, customer, and the general public remain injury-free. Advocate for safety protocols, processes, and training to establish and uphold a safety-oriented culture.


• Mentor and develop Transportation Managers through personalized coaching, training on policies and procedures, aiding in problem resolution as necessary, and leading by example.


• Supervise and enhance the performance of drivers and transportation staff by collaborating with Transportation Managers to address performance gaps. Foster associate engagement and retention, creating a culture that reflects the company's core values.


• Build high-performing teams by assessing staffing needs and overseeing the recruitment and hiring of transportation personnel. Evaluate performance, coach for service and safety targets, and implement disciplinary measures when required.


• Monitor production goals and maintain a zero-error approach to ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction. Anticipate, analyze, and resolve delivery issues while devising cost-effective and compliant solutions, guiding managers on execution. Ensure adherence to company, state, and federal DOT regulations.


• Guarantee optimal delivery reliability by developing efficient production flow processes and identifying strategies for process improvement and cost reduction aligned with business objectives.


• Identify waste and enhance processes to complete tasks more safely and efficiently.


• Analyze daily performance metrics; identify weaknesses; and propose changes to the VP of Operations to ensure productivity goals are met.


• In unionized environments, collaborate with HR and the VP of Operations to interpret collective bargaining agreements, administer appropriate disciplinary actions, resolve routine grievances, and participate in arbitration as necessary.


• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISION:


• Direct Reports: Transportation Managers, union and/or non-union transportation associates (Dispatchers, Transportation Clerks, etc.), Routers (location-dependent).


• Indirect Reports: Union and/or non-union drivers.

RELATIONSHIPS:


• Internal: Transportation leaders and colleagues; VP of Operations; Drivers; Routers; Warehouse leaders; Internal clients across departments (e.g., Sales).


• External: Customers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


• The role involves time spent in an office setting using a computer, as well as time in a vehicle with drivers, which may expose the individual to higher noise and vibration levels than typically experienced in passenger vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience/Requirements:


• A minimum of five years of experience in transportation or delivery supervision is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


• Comprehensive knowledge of transportation and delivery operations, methods, and procedures.


• Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.


• Ability to communicate openly and effectively with all associates and departments within the organization.


• Solid understanding of DOT regulations, inventory management, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.


• Proficient in interpreting financial and operational data.


• Competent in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

Travel:


• 10% travel may be required, typically for mandatory meetings and/or training.

Education/Training:


• High school diploma or GED is required; a college degree is preferred.
