Job Overview

Position Title: Youth Advocacy and Engagement Specialist (Case Manager)

Department: Shelter and Transitional Living

Role Summary: The Youth Advocacy and Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive case management services to young individuals facing homelessness. This position is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers youth to articulate their experiences, aspirations, and future goals.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are typical for this role. They are not intended to be exhaustive or exclusive:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of youth to determine their housing and service needs, providing individualized mentoring and guidance.
  • Assist youth in developing personalized goal plans that encompass financial support, education, employment, health, and housing stability.
  • Provide coaching on Independent Living Skills, helping youth establish routines that prepare them for successful independent living.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and community partners, including mental health professionals and social workers, to coordinate care effectively.
  • Model positive social interactions and facilitate conflict resolution among youth.
  • Intervene proactively in conflicts to de-escalate situations and offer crisis counseling and appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain accurate data records for youth in the Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS), including entry and exit documentation.
  • Support youth in transitioning from site-based programs to independent living, ensuring ongoing progress and learning.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, education, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and lived experience.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and strengths-based youth empowerment models is preferred.
  • Applicants must be at least 24 years of age.
Work Environment

The physical demands of this position require the ability to sit, stand, bend, twist, kneel, and communicate effectively. The role may involve lifting or moving items up to 40 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position ranges from $23.75 to $25.50, based on qualifications. Avenues for Youth offers a holistic approach to staff well-being, including competitive wages, comprehensive health benefits, and generous paid time off.
