Role Summary:
The organization is seeking a qualified individual to assume the role of Lead Research Scientist within our Immunology and Virology laboratory. This position entails overseeing technical operations related to testing for infectious diseases of public health importance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute a range of serological techniques for antibody detection against infectious agents.
- Conduct virus isolation and identification of viral antigens, including but not limited to influenza and rabies.
- Utilize advanced methodologies such as direct and indirect fluorescence antibody assays, Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISAs), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing.
- Develop and validate new testing methods while ensuring compliance with quality assurance and quality control protocols.
- Maintain meticulous records and oversee the upkeep of laboratory equipment.
- Prepare and communicate summaries of test findings to management and public health officials for informed decision-making.
- Provide technical guidance and training to laboratory staff.
Work Environment:
This role may require weekend and after-hours work during emergency testing situations. The selected candidate will also be part of a rotating on-call schedule.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess comprehensive knowledge and relevant experience in laboratory practices, particularly in high-complexity testing environments. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting are essential.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with high throughput PCR testing.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems and data analysis software.
- Ability to lead research projects and mentor junior staff.
