Position Overview:

Astrix is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our team. This role is essential in supporting our pathology department by managing patient materials and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately manage and process patient pathology materials, including order forms, reports, slides, and paraffin blocks, ensuring proper documentation and labeling.
  • Digitally archive pathology reports and consultative documents into accessible formats for medical staff.
  • Oversee various archival functions such as specimen storage, retrieval, processing, tracking, and shipping of patient materials.
  • Strictly follow patient identification protocols and uphold regulatory and privacy standards.
  • Input tissue samples into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), ensuring proper labeling and distribution to relevant personnel.
  • Regularly return materials via certified mail, ensuring secure and documented delivery.
  • Provide final reports to attending staff, including necessary contact information for follow-up.
  • Assist colleagues with additional clinical support tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Background in medical terminology is preferred.
  • Willingness to work with human tissue samples.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Understanding of federal and patient privacy laws to maintain confidentiality.
