About The Role

DNV is expanding our Strategy Team within the Energy Systems group and is seeking a Senior Techno-Economic Energy Consultant to aid in grid modernization and system decarbonization initiatives.

This position will involve leading and supporting projects and business development efforts focused on strategic aspects of the energy transition, including grid modernization, decarbonization, non-wires alternatives, non-pipeline alternatives, distribution planning, distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, and evolving utility economics and energy market dynamics.

Key Responsibilities

Lead project-based teams in delivering strategic research studies and analyses by acting as a technical lead, project manager, or subject matter expert.

This may involve client engagement, proposal development, project team leadership, and preparation of deliverables along with presenting results.

Provide insights and lead or support research and analysis on strategic energy transition projects, including resource adoption potential, forecasting analyses, demand flexibility, distribution system planning, benefit-cost analyses, and planning studies for non-wire and non-pipeline alternatives.

Create resources and tools for grid modernization and distributed energy resource strategies while evolving modeling techniques and design.

Collaborate with DNV staff across North America and globally to identify collaboration and innovation opportunities, developing creative solutions to client challenges.

Interpret client challenges and transform them into value-added opportunities.

Foster a teamwork-oriented environment that builds and maintains interpersonal relationships, guiding researchers and consultants while collaborating with project managers and team members to share knowledge and best practices.

Ensure all deliverables are of high quality, effective, and timely; effectively utilize analysts and consultants at DNV to maintain high standards of accuracy.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Statistics, Economics, Environmental and Energy Policy, Engineering)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in data analysis, engineering, or market research
  • At least 5 years of experience in the electric utility sector
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning and market evolution
  • Willingness to engage in new and exciting challenges and think creatively to solve problems
  • Motivation for sourcing and successfully leading efforts to secure new business
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Proven capability to lead, motivate, and coach individuals across various disciplines to enhance overall performance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; demonstrated ability to write for diverse audiences, including proposal development
  • Comfortable communicating with team members from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Proven ability to manage tasks within quality, budget, and deadline parameters
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Statistics, Economics, Environmental and Energy Policy, Engineering)
  • Experience in analyzing or forecasting energy and demand savings and/or the grid services and impact opportunities of energy efficiency, demand response, distributed energy resources, electrification, and non-wires alternatives
  • Experience in a consulting or team-based research environment, or working with electric utilities, regional grid operators, or relevant organizations developing energy transition initiatives and analyses
