Little Ferry, New Jersey, United States YipitData Full time

About YipitData:

YipitData is the leading market research and analytics firm for the disruptive economy, having recently raised $475M from The Carlyle Group at a valuation over $1B.

We analyze billions of alternative data points every day to provide accurate, detailed insights on ridesharing, e-commerce marketplaces, payments, and more.

Our on-demand insights team uses proprietary technology to identify, license, clean, and analyze the data many of the world's largest investment funds and corporations depend on.

For three years and counting, we have been recognized as one of Inc's Best Workplaces. We are a fast-growing technology company backed by The Carlyle Group and Norwest Venture Partners. Our offices are located in multiple cities worldwide.

We cultivate a people-centric culture focused on mastery, ownership, and transparency.

About the Role:

Are you a motivated, collaborative, solutions-oriented attorney looking for a new role in a fast-paced financial tech company? This is a rare opportunity to become a core contributor to the success of a company that is building the future of investment research.

Our legal and compliance team is an essential and collaborative partner in the company's growth.

Responsibilities:

  1. Integrate into the day-to-day operations of our product, research, and data teams, providing legal, business, and strategic advice to enable execution of the company's roadmap without compromising legal protection.
  2. Provide oversight and legal advice with respect to YipitData's global compliance program, including evaluating product and privacy risks in our data products, overseeing our company's due diligence responses for product sales, and advising on regulatory risks in the chain of consent for data licensing deals.
  3. Review new technologies and unique data sets which will be analyzed and transformed by our product and research teams into research reports, data feeds, and dashboards.
  4. Lead company-wide strategic initiatives, including advising senior management, and coordinating and driving cross-stakeholder alignment on complex projects.
  5. Collaborate with the company's product, research, and data licensing teams to counsel on legal issues across the entire product lifecycle, identifying potential risks and advising on risk-mitigation strategies.
  6. Exercise impeccable judgment in escalating issues or engaging other stakeholders.
  7. Develop and operationalize forward-looking policies and procedures, anticipating likely future regulatory and other developments in the emerging laws relating to alternative data without compromising YipitData's growth.
  8. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of laws and regulatory developments impacting alternative data.
  9. Partner with and advise global cross-functional teams on a wide range of compliance projects.

Requirements:

  1. A Juris Doctor degree (or foreign equivalent) and active law license in at least one state in good standing (or eligibility to register as authorized in-house counsel).
  2. At least 5 years of experience practicing law at a major law firm or in the legal department of a financial, tech, or high-growth company.
  3. Familiarity with U.S. and global laws relating to product compliance, data, and technology, privacy, and public securities.
  4. A pragmatic and thoughtful advisor.
  5. Confident in distilling complex issues into key risks and providing succinct advice.
  6. Highly analytical and energized by engaging with substantive legal topics.
  7. Adept at balancing legal risks and commercial interests.
  8. Comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  9. Can move quickly without sacrificing quality.
  10. Has demonstrated experience leading large, sensitive matters within defined timeframes.
  11. Comfortable simultaneously managing large workloads, competing client demands, and shifting priorities within a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  12. Intellectually curious and driven to independently learn about emerging areas of law.
  13. Interested in alternative data and excited about setting the gold-standard for compliance in our industry.

What We Offer:

Our compensation package includes comprehensive benefits, perks, equity, and a competitive salary. The annual base salary for this position is anticipated to be $175,000-195,000. The final offer will be determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the applicant's individual work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal team benchmarks.

This role may be performed fully remotely within the United States. Please note that our US headquarters are located in NYC. We also have office hubs in multiple cities worldwide.

We care about your personal life and we mean it. We offer flexible work hours, flexible vacation, a generous 401K match, parental leave, team events, a wellness budget, learning reimbursement, and more.

Your growth at YipitData is determined by the impact that you are making, not by tenure, unnecessary facetime, or office politics.

Everyone at YipitData is empowered to learn, self-improve, and master their skills in an environment focused on ownership, respect, and trust.

Please note that for this position, we are not able to consider candidates who currently or in the future will require visa sponsorship.
