Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Water and Wastewater Services Engineering Division, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies, and reporting major activities to executive level administrators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer Broward County's environmental engineering program.
  • Direct divisional activities and develop programs, procedures, and priorities to meet established goals.
  • Supervise and coordinate the planning, design, construction, and project management of environmental systems.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and maintain the capital improvement program.
  • Coordinate projects with federal, state, and county agencies, as well as local municipalities.
  • Coordinate and monitor all phases of contract administration.
  • Prepare and monitor division operating budget and prepare special reports as required.
  • Coordinate construction and inspection of environmental capital improvements through developer agreement projects.
  • Attend conferences and public and professional meetings.
  • Perform emergency operation functions as needed.
Requirements and Preferences
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a closely related field.
  • Requires six (6) years of experience in capital project management, design, and engineering based on the area of assignment, including four (4) years of supervisory experience.
  • Possess and maintain registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
  • Preferences include a Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field, and/or Business/Public Administration, as well as certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or Construction Professional in Built Environment Projects (PMI-CP).
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic environment with a focus on public service. The position requires the ability to perform a variety of tasks, including operating a motor vehicle, performing emergency operation functions, and working in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits

Broward County offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including 11 annual holidays, accrued annual/vacation and sick leave, FRS retirement, $50,000 of free life insurance, training and development, and participation eligibility in a deferred compensation (457) plan with a match up to $2,000.
