Job Summary

Carson-Newman University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Professor of Sociology. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the Human Services major within the Sociology Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in the Human Services major, including introduction to sociology and social problems in the Liberal Arts Core.
  • Advise and mentor students in the Sociology and Human Services programs.
  • Serve on faculty committees as assigned by the Chair of Faculty Council.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in academic conferences and contribute to the evaluation of course offerings and requirements.
  • Assist in student recruitment events and other duties as assigned by the Vice President and Director of Athletics.
Requirements
  • Doctorate in Sociology or a terminal degree in a related human services field.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Must be a professing Christian with evidence of an active role in a local church.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to access and navigate campus facilities.
  • Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings.
  • Regularly sit and stand.
  • Frequently use wrist, hands, and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements.
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
