Critical Care Float Pool Nurse

The Critical Care Float Pool at GW Hospital offers a unique opportunity for skilled RNs to work across various high-acuity areas, including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Nurses in this pool are equipped to manage the complexities of critically ill and injured patients, providing support to units with immediate staffing needs across the hospital.
Job SummaryGW Hospital is seeking a highly flexible and experienced Full-Time Critical Care Float Pool RN to join our Central Float Pool. This role offers the opportunity to work across three critical care environments: ED, ICU, and PACU. The ideal candidate will be a skilled and adaptable RN, comfortable working in fast-paced, high-acuity settings with varying patient populations.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide high-quality, patient-centered care across the Emergency Department, ICU, and PACU, adapting to the needs of each unit.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for patients, based on clinical condition and unit-specific protocols.
- Respond quickly to changes in patient status, utilizing advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
- Administer medications, treatments, and other nursing interventions according to established protocols.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in each unit to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient care activities and interventions.
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, ensuring adherence to safety standards and hospital policies.
- Serve as a resource to other nurses and staff members, offering guidance and support across the units where you are assigned.
- Float to different areas as staffing needs arise, providing seamless transitions and continuity of care for patients.

- Current RN license in the state of Washington, D.C., or be DC eligible.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a critical care setting (ED, ICU, or PACU).
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required.
- Strong adaptability, clinical judgment, and the ability to work effectively in various high-pressure environments.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to integrate into different units seamlessly.
