Process Facilities Engineer – Job Overview

Scout Energy Management is a leading private investment firm specializing in the acquisition, operation, and enhancement of upstream conventional oil and gas assets for institutional investors. With a workforce of approximately 1100 employees, including 180 at our Dallas headquarters, we are committed to excellence in managing private energy funds and the operational efficiency of our owned oil and gas properties.

We are currently in search of a Process Facilities Engineer to deliver engineering support focused on processes and facilities within our Facilities Projects division. This role encompasses a diverse array of plants and facilities across various operational regions. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining process condition monitoring systems, while also providing leadership and support to our production and maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support for 5-6 plants of varying production capacities; monitor and assess plant performance (efficiency, reliability) and proactively address operational challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, including air quality regulations; support Process Safety Management and environmental compliance initiatives.
  • Identify, assess, and implement projects aimed at enhancing reliability, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and capacity at the facilities; define project scopes and generate necessary project requests.
  • Prepare for and assist during plant turnarounds, including project execution and inspections.
  • Develop and enhance process condition and financial monitoring models to identify performance gaps and facilitate effective troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with Plant Operators, Operations Engineers, and Marketing to leverage process condition and financial monitoring for various operational challenges.
  • Assist with regulatory paperwork and filings as required by the Regulatory department.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with process simulation software, particularly ProMax.
  • Ability to evaluate and rate equipment performance (compression, pumps, columns, heat exchangers, etc.).
  • Familiarity with related fields such as process controls, process safety, and plant design.
  • Preferred experience in condensate stabilization, NGL recovery, nitrogen rejection, helium recovery, gas treatment, and dehydration.
  • Knowledge of pipeline and system modeling.
  • Experience in production operations, surface facilities, and artificial lift mechanisms is advantageous.
  • Ability to understand oil and gas purchase agreements and develop associated economic models.
  • Proven project development and execution experience.
  • Capacity to make informed decisions considering operability, reliability, capital, and operating costs.
  • Ability to cultivate a culture of open communication, innovation, trust, and professional development.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Integrity, excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude are essential.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication, organizational, and managerial skills.
Education & Experience
  • B.S. degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is strongly preferred; other relevant disciplines may be considered based on experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering role within a plant environment; experience in operations engineering support and troubleshooting is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel between field and corporate offices as needed.
