Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled RN Intake Coordinator to join our team at the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center in the department of Patient Access Services. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patient referrals are properly vetted, prioritized, scheduled, and records collected to provide a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and respond to patient inquiries and referrals, establishing a strong relationship between referral sources and the hospital.
  • Determine the appropriateness of referrals for admission, adhering to established admission criteria for services involved.
  • Interface with hospital departments and physicians to facilitate the admission process, ensuring timely and efficient care.
  • Assess financial reimbursement for proposed hospitalization and intervention, obtaining pre-certification as needed.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure availability of necessary resources prior to patient acceptance.
  • Communicate with patients, families, payers, and referral sources regarding services to be provided during hospitalization.
  • Track data on intakes and referral sources, providing valuable insights for process improvement.
  • Develop and implement guidelines for program promotion, intake, and referral processes.
  • Collaborate with the rehab unit to ensure seamless communication and care coordination.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an NLN-approved nursing program.
  • Three years of experience in medical intake and/or care coordination.
  • Proven experience in relationship development and managed care.
  • Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
