Senior Director of Operations

DC Action is a nonprofit organization advocating for the rights of DC's young people. We are seeking a Senior Director of Operations to lead our administrative and financial functions.
The Senior Director of Operations will oversee human resources, financial management, grants management, facilities management, board engagement, and IT. This role will be a key member of our senior leadership team and will work closely with the Executive Director to ensure the smooth operation of the organization.
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit administration and financial management. They will have a strong understanding of the District of Columbia as a city-state and a commitment to improving the lives of children and youth.
The Senior Director of Operations will be responsible for:
- Overseeing business operations, including office facilities, equipment, and staff IT needs
- Stewarding relationships with vendors, including consultants, contractors, auditors, bankers, landlords, and insurance companies
- Leading logistics for staff events, including securing event space, catering, etc.
- Reviewing contracts and overseeing insurance policies to mitigate institutional risk
- Hiring and supervising direct reports as the organization grows
- Cultivating a work environment that embraces data-driven decisions, collaboration, transparency, open communication, and accountability
The Senior Director of Operations will also be responsible for establishing and managing an internal human resources function, including hiring and onboarding processes, annual performance management, annual training, personnel policies and practices, mediating employee disputes and incidents, and ensuring maintenance of personnel files.
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the confidence to deliver and debate ideas collaboratively. They will also have strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once.
