Role Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated Researcher to contribute to our projects focused on political violence and protest data within the West and Central Africa regions. This is a remote position requiring a commitment of at least 20 hours per week. As an entry-level contractor, you will engage in data collection and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review news articles, reports from international organizations, NGOs, and security updates to identify incidents of political violence.
  • Input and code data into an Excel template, ensuring comprehensive coverage of events from protests to armed conflicts.
  • Maintain the quality and reliability of the data collected.
  • Participate in extensive training provided by ACLED, which includes rigorous exercises to assess coding skills.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Excel is essential.
  • Fluency in English and French is required; knowledge of Arabic is preferred.
  • Experience in desk-based research and the ability to work independently under deadlines.
  • A keen attention to detail and the capacity to incorporate feedback effectively.
  • Familiarity with the political landscape and conflict dynamics in the relevant regions is advantageous.

Compensation:

The position offers a remuneration of 20 USD per hour.
