Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Hospital Bed Board Coordinator to join our team at Guidehouse. As a key member of our healthcare operations team, you will be responsible for regulating bed availability throughout the hospital, ensuring efficient patient flow and throughput.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor admit status of patients from the ED to the inpatient/Observation setting.
  • Communicate with ER staff, ED care managers, house supervisors, environmental services, and inpatient charge nurses regarding patient status and bed availability.
  • Initiate clear, concise, and ongoing communication regarding bed availability and patient flow.
  • Review medical admit orders for accuracy and completion, as well as to oversee bed availability for admits, transfers, and discharges.
  • Conduct walking rounds with inpatient charge nurses to establish bed status of availability or non-availability.
  • Maintain positive, effective, collaborative interactions with physicians, department directors, and staff members to communicate the needs of patients and the facility.
  • Operate the hospital's electronic bed board with detail and efficiency.
  • Possess basic registration skills.
  • Exemplify analytical thought processes, prioritizing critical admits and in-house transfers as medically indicated.
  • Complete a daily hospital census reconciliation.
  • Notify house supervisor, CM, ED, environmental services, and inpatient staff regarding bed delays.
  • Anticipate potential barriers to admittance, unit transfers, and discharges, intervening appropriately to offset any adverse impact.
  • Maintain a calm, professional, rational demeanor during all times of interaction.
  • Perform well and maintain bed stability in situations involving conflict or crisis.
  • Adhere to organizational and departmental policy maintaining confidentiality and patient rights.
  • Participate in performance improvement and knowledge advancement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager and/or director of care management.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience in an acute care setting OR related healthcare setting OR strong previous customer service experience.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association OR ability to obtain within 90 days of start date.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Resourcefulness.
  • Experience in patient admittance, bed board, or administrative work.
  • Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
