Job Summary

The Hospital Bed Board Coordinator will play a critical role in regulating bed availability throughout the hospital. This position requires strong analytical and communication skills to effectively manage patient flow and bed allocation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in real-time to ensure efficient bed utilization.
  • Communicate with ER staff, ED care managers, house supervisors, and inpatient charge nurses to coordinate bed availability and patient flow.
  • Initiate clear and concise communication regarding bed availability and patient status.
  • Review medical admit orders for accuracy and completeness, and oversee bed availability for admits, transfers, and discharges.
  • Conduct regular rounds with inpatient charge nurses to establish bed status and availability.
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance verification and determine accurate insurances on all admissions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, department directors, and staff members to communicate patient needs and facility requirements.
  • Operate the hospital's electronic bed board with precision and efficiency.
  • Possess basic registration skills and maintain a calm and professional demeanor during interactions.
  • Exemplify analytical thought processes, prioritizing critical admits and in-house transfers as medically indicated.
  • Complete a daily hospital census reconciliation and notify relevant staff regarding bed delays.
  • Anticipate potential barriers to admittance, unit transfers, and discharges, and intervene appropriately to mitigate adverse impacts.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience in an acute care setting or related healthcare setting, or strong previous customer service experience.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within 90 days of start date.

  • A team player with the ability to follow systems and protocols to achieve common goals.
  • Highly organized and well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Confidence in communicating and outreach to other community healthcare organizations and personnel.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Critical thinking and resourcefulness.
  • Experience in patient admittance, bed board, or administrative work.
  • Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
