About the Role

The Department of Corrections Executive Leadership is seeking a highly skilled Financial Specialist Senior to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for exercising independent judgment and decision-making responsibilities for complex fiscal documents and transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, Department of Administration (DOA) and agency accounting, internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate with staff and vendors to resolve discrepancies arising from the approval or disapproval of financial transactions.
  • Enter on-line (direct) financial data into the Department's Enterprise Resource Planning System (PeopleSoft).
  • Monitor the system to ensure the integrity of the fiscal data which reflects the fiscal actions and obligations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing practices and principles.
  • Working knowledge and usage of MS-Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), state accounting systems, and the Internet.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.
  • Identify issues and follow through with problem-solving techniques.
