Compensation Structure
$49.65 Hourly at the 593.2 level
$59.49 Hourly at the 593.3 level
Please note that the compensation range is a general guideline only. Various factors are considered when determining starting pay, including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Computer Support Technician to deliver technical assistance for both unclassified and classified systems within a diverse environment, addressing a range of intricate technical issues promptly. Your responsibilities will include the installation, configuration, security, and maintenance of systems, along with troubleshooting system-related challenges. This role is situated within the Information Technology Operations (ITO) Division of the Computing Directorate.
This position necessitates full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the responsibilities.
This role may be filled at either level based on expertise and relevant experience as evaluated by the hiring team. Additional responsibilities (detailed below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
Your Responsibilities
- Install new computer hardware and perform upgrades.
- Set up and configure printers and other peripherals.
- Install and configure operating systems, security measures, and application software.
- Ensure computer systems are secure and compliant with Department of Energy (DOE) mandates.
- Diagnose and resolve moderately complex issues related to systems, printers, and networks.
- Provide technical support to the user community.
- Maintain appropriate training in technology, computer security, and safety.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities for the 593.3 Level
- Conduct complex installations and configurations.
- Diagnose and resolve intricate system and network-related issues.
- Offer advanced technical support to the user community.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
- Associate's Degree in a computer-related discipline or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
- General working knowledge of desktop and/or server hardware and operating systems (e.g., Mac OS and/or Windows OS).
- Experience in administering, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing Apple and/or Windows systems.
- Experience and knowledge of customer support skills, including effective listening, rapport-building, communication skills, and a friendly demeanor.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers and team members.
- Familiarity with Mac and/or Windows security protocols for managing user accounts and monitoring access.
Additional Qualifications for the 593.3 Level
- Advanced knowledge of Mac and/or Windows operating systems and related hardware.
- Significant experience in creating step-by-step instructions for repetitive tasks to enhance efficiency.
- Extensive experience in resolving complex system and network-related issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional computer certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA A+, ACSP).
- Experience in securing computer systems, drafting security plans, and monitoring compliance with DOE mandates.
- General working knowledge of network hardware, software, protocols, and principles.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If selected, a Federal background investigation will be initiated to determine eligibility for access to classified information. All cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
