Position Overview:

Postdoctoral Researcher
Company: MIT Materials Research Laboratory

Are you dedicated to exploring the economic and ecological dimensions of materials systems? We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to focus on the extraction, processing, and recovery of minerals pertinent to the energy transition.
  • Dynamic modeling of materials markets
  • Consequential life cycle assessment methodologies
  • Development of approaches to comprehend the effects of technological advancements on materials supply chain dynamics
  • Identification of social factors associated with materials supply risks
  • Process-oriented cost modeling of materials systems
In this role, you will develop and apply system and process models in your research. The position entails collaboration and interaction with faculty, fellow postdoctoral researchers, research sponsors, and the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL:
- Ph.D. in an engineering discipline (preferably materials science, chemical engineering, or industrial ecology), resource economics, or a related field
- Interest in mining and the energy transition
- Experience and proficiency in quantitative analysis, including applied econometrics
- Strong foundation in thermodynamics and materials flows
- Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., STATA, R, Python)
- Excellent organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to effectively convey research findings through peer-reviewed journal articles and presentations
- Willingness to travel for research collaboration and conference presentations
- Attention to detail and accuracy

PREFERRED:
- Experience in applied theoretical modeling
- Expertise in statistics, economics, process modeling, optimization, and programming.
