This position is integral to child welfare, focusing on family engagement and support. Flexibility in work hours may be necessary to meet client needs. The standard workday is typically from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but adjustments may occur. This role is classified as non-exempt under FLSA guidelines.
Position Summary
This entry-level role is designed for those seeking to enhance family preservation and rehabilitation while safeguarding children's overall well-being. Responsibilities include overseeing child protection practices, which encompass safety, permanency, and emotional health. This position is part of a career progression series within the Social Caseworker - Children, Youth, & Family Services framework, allowing for advancement based on performance and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct client interviews and formulate effective treatment strategies; engage in home assessments and deliver comprehensive casework services to families and children; investigate child abuse claims and evaluate immediate risks to children; facilitate referrals to community resources.
- Track and report on client progress, offering service recommendations and ensuring timely adherence to treatment plans.
- Address safety concerns within the home environment to protect children; guarantee that those under departmental care receive essential interventions.
- Provide crisis intervention and coordinate supportive services to help clients navigate challenges.
- Act as a liaison between the Department of Human Services and collaborate with other professionals on case management and treatment plans.
- Participate in court proceedings as necessary, ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately.
- Maintain thorough records of all interactions and ensure proper filing of paperwork; update case information in databases as needed.
- Facilitate transportation for clients to various appointments, including therapy and court hearings.
- Support administrative functions and coordinate client-related services within the assigned program.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations; review cases to confirm the development and implementation of case plans.
- Assist Practice and Support Services teams as required.
- Gather and report on unit statistics and performance metrics.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
This role does not involve supervisory responsibilities but may require providing guidance or training to peers.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Understanding of casework methodologies and protocols.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues, clients, and community stakeholders.
- Proficient in planning, organizing, and scheduling tasks efficiently.
- Ability to assess situations and make sound decisions; adept in conflict resolution and problem-solving.
- Competent in completing documentation and reports accurately.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Familiarity with standard office equipment and software.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field related to child welfare social work.
- Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance are required.
- Must obtain necessary certifications pertinent to the role.
- Colorado State Child Welfare Caseworker Certification or the ability to complete the initial examination within the first ninety days of employment.
- Successful completion of a background investigation, including fingerprinting and drug screening.
Duties may be performed in various settings, including office environments, client residences, schools, and courts. The role may require physical mobility, including climbing stairs and walking in diverse environments. A personal vehicle is necessary for client transportation, with mileage reimbursement available. This position may involve on-call responsibilities and occasional travel.
