Role Overview:
As a Field Engineering Specialist, you will deliver expert knowledge in variable frequency drives (VFD) and control systems to our clients and field teams. Your role is pivotal in ensuring optimal performance and reliability of VFD products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical advisor for clients and internal engineers regarding VFD products.
- Utilize remote diagnostic tools to assess and analyze equipment failures.
- Provide comprehensive technical support to clients and engineering teams when not engaged in fieldwork.
- Conduct commissioning, installations, quality assessments, and performance evaluations of VFD systems to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Diagnose issues, perform repairs, and replace faulty components as necessary.
- Communicate any hardware, software, or system design deficiencies to the factory and implement corrective measures as directed.
- Maintain accurate records in the client relationship management (CRM) system to facilitate timely reporting.
- Prepare and distribute Service Advisories to clients and field engineers as required.
- Draft and review field reports for clients upon request.
- Uphold safety qualifications relevant to assigned tasks and adhere to safety protocols established by the company and clients.
- Manage warranty replacements efficiently, ensuring expedited service when needed.
- Address client concerns outside of regular business hours as part of a rotating on-call duty.
- Investigate proposed field modifications, report issues, and suggest solutions to the parent company as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in field engineering, customer support, or project engineering related to AC and DC Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) in industrial settings.
- Strong understanding of power conversion technologies.
- Proven experience in configuring and tuning both digital and analog control systems.
- Established successful relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
- Ability to work at heights of up to 175 feet.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 35% of the time, often with short notice.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in field engineering or customer support related to AC and DC Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) in industrial environments.
- Expertise in PLC systems from manufacturers such as Toshiba, GE, Rockwell, and Mitsubishi Electric.
- Experience with A/C and DC drive engineering, including specific models and legacy systems.
- Background in field engineering within the metals rolling or container crane systems sectors.
- Knowledge of controls engineering principles.
- Familiarity with LAN Topology for various communication protocols.
