Role Summary
The Biostatistics Center is in search of a Director of Information Technology to oversee all facets of the information systems and technological requirements for a large medical research facility comprising over 100 faculty and research personnel. This role supports a vast portfolio of NIH-sponsored research involving numerous external stakeholders.
The Director will collaborate with other directors on the administration of the Center, including management and policy development. This position provides advisory support to the Center Director and the Executive Committee on IT-related matters and may participate in various committees.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of information systems, networking, security, and data center operations.
- Develop a long-term strategic plan for the organization’s information systems.
- Serve as the chief architect for the organization’s IT infrastructure.
- Direct the design, development, implementation, and coordination of all information systems functions.
- Evaluate new computing technologies for potential integration into the organization.
- Establish and enforce information systems policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Oversee procurement related to information systems, including the acquisition of new equipment and maintenance of existing systems.
- Manage the organization’s data center facilities, ensuring optimal operation and support.
- Supervise information systems staff, guiding their development and performance management.
- Provide technical support to staff and researchers, ensuring the availability of necessary IT infrastructure.
- Engage in continuous professional development through seminars and workshops.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree in a related discipline with at least 8 years of relevant experience. The degree must be conferred by the start date of employment. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Preferred Skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Extensive knowledge of various information systems, including IBM System z and Intel servers.
- Strong understanding of operating systems such as IBM z/VM, Linux, and Microsoft Windows.
