Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer II is responsible for performing advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures. This role involves the identification of cardiac structures, detection of abnormalities, and documentation for clinical interpretation.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage daily patient workflow in the echocardiography lab, ensuring efficient prioritization and documentation.
  2. Engage in leadership initiatives aimed at enhancing quality and teamwork within the department.
  3. Conduct complex echocardiograms, assisting cardiologists in diagnosing and monitoring heart conditions according to established protocols.
  4. Provide patient care by explaining procedures, preparing patients, and ensuring comfort during examinations.
  5. Execute clinical echocardiogram procedures, including 2D, 3D, color Doppler, spectral Doppler, and M-Mode imaging.
  6. Analyze test results for abnormalities and communicate findings to the physician promptly.
  7. Address equipment issues by troubleshooting minor problems and maintaining logs of equipment status.
  8. Utilize universal precautions and maintain a sterile environment during procedures.
  9. Assist in trans-esophageal echocardiograms under physician supervision, adhering to infection control standards.
  10. Perform fetal echocardiograms, ensuring accurate identification of cardiac structures and abnormalities.
  11. Maintain cleanliness and readiness of ultrasound equipment and examination rooms.
  12. Monitor and replenish supplies necessary for echocardiography procedures.
  13. Ensure accurate entry of patient information into the ECHO and EMR systems.
  14. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and peer review processes.
  15. Stay updated on technological advancements relevant to echocardiography.
  16. Contribute to the education of students and new staff, serving as a mentor and preceptor.
Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in health sciences preferred.
  2. Completion of an accredited ultrasound program is mandatory.
  3. Current CPR certification is required.
  4. Preferred experience of at least one year in echocardiography testing.
  5. Registered as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in adult echocardiography; pediatric echocardiography registration required within one year of employment.
  6. Competence in performing fetal echocardiograms is preferred.
