Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer II performs advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures, focusing on the identification of cardiac structures and abnormalities, ensuring accurate documentation for clinical evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage daily patient flow within the echocardiography lab, maintaining accurate logs and departmental reports.
  2. Engage in leadership initiatives aimed at enhancing quality and efficiency in patient care.
  3. Conduct complex echocardiographic procedures, assisting cardiologists in diagnosing and monitoring cardiac conditions, adhering to established protocols.
  4. Provide exceptional patient care by explaining procedures, preparing patients, and ensuring comfort during examinations.
  5. Execute clinical echocardiograms utilizing various imaging techniques, including 2D, 3D, color Doppler, and spectral Doppler.
  6. Analyze test results, identifying abnormalities and promptly communicating findings to the medical team.
  7. Address equipment issues by troubleshooting minor problems and coordinating with the Biomedical Engineering Department for maintenance.
  8. Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection control standards during procedures.
  9. Assist in trans-esophageal echocardiograms under physician supervision, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
  10. Perform fetal echocardiograms, documenting findings for clinical interpretation.
  11. Ensure cleanliness and readiness of echocardiography equipment and rooms.
  12. Monitor inventory levels of supplies and equipment, ensuring availability for daily operations.
  13. Communicate effectively with patients and staff regarding preparation and procedures.
  14. Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care requirements and adapt practices accordingly.
  15. Accurately enter patient data into electronic health records, following departmental standards.
  16. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and peer review processes.
  17. Engage in ongoing professional development through training and educational programs.
  18. Act as a mentor for new staff and contribute to the education of students and residents.
Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in health sciences is preferred.
  2. Completion of an accredited ultrasound program is mandatory.
  3. Current CPR certification is required.
  4. Minimum of one year of experience in echocardiography is preferred.
  5. Registered as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in adult echocardiography; pediatric echocardiography certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
  6. Competence in performing fetal echocardiograms is preferred.
