Position Overview
At Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, the Pharmacy Operations Coordinator is a pivotal role within the pharmacy team, dedicated to enhancing pharmaceutical care for our patients. This advanced practitioner will oversee medication management processes, engage in drug policy formulation, and lead quality assurance initiatives tailored to their area of expertise, all aimed at elevating operational efficiency and ensuring patient safety.

Key Responsibilities
People Management
Foster a collaborative and positive workplace atmosphere, guiding the pharmacy team to achieve exceptional departmental outcomes. Engage with healthcare professionals to resolve issues and meet patient-specific objectives, while serving as a mentor to pharmacy staff in effective communication and professional development.

  • Design and deliver educational resources and training sessions for pharmacy personnel and other hospital staff.
  • Maintain open communication with pharmacy leadership regarding staff performance, quality improvement projects, and compliance with regulations.
Service Excellence
Effectively manage daily operational demands, adjusting staffing and workflow to optimize patient care. Supervise pharmacy staff to ensure timely and accurate medication delivery while taking on responsibilities as a shift coordinator.
  • Perform clinical pharmacy duties, exercising sound judgment in patient care decisions, including order verification and medication therapy management.
  • Act as a liaison between pharmacy and other departments to support pharmacy objectives and quality improvement efforts.
Quality and Safety Assurance
Lead departmental reporting initiatives related to specialty areas, gathering and analyzing data on quality management and productivity.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance patient care through participation in quality management activities.
  • Review and revise departmental policies and procedures as assigned.
Financial Management
Contribute to the development of the annual budget for the pharmacy department, ensuring cost-effective therapy options for patients.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement, while managing inventory to reduce waste.
  • Demonstrate effective time management and prioritization skills for self and team members.
Growth and Innovation
Assist in the planning and implementation of new pharmacy programs and services that align with safety, financial, and operational goals.
  • Engage in professional development activities, contributing to departmental and professional publications.
  • Lead assessments and implementation of new pharmacy technologies.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from an accredited pharmacy program is required, with an advanced degree preferred.

Experience:
Candidates must possess either a completion of an ASHP-accredited residency program or significant relevant experience in a pharmacy setting.Licenses and Certifications:
Must hold a valid pharmacist license and relevant certifications as required.

Skills and Competencies:
Demonstrated proficiency in pharmacy practice, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team are essential.
