Position Overview:

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for delivering therapeutic interventions aimed at addressing physical challenges, functional restrictions, or disabilities. This role involves executing treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs, facilitating recovery, rehabilitation, and the restoration of normal bodily functions following medical conditions or injuries. The Occupational Therapist collaborates with physicians to enhance patient functionality, mitigate pain, and prevent complications through medically directed therapy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' functional requirements and establish suitable objectives in collaboration with the medical team; provide direct care, assess outcomes, and consult with other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Regularly re-evaluate patients' functional needs and modify care plans as required to achieve optimal results.
  • Support patients in executing their treatment plans and adapting to therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises, providing guidance, encouragement, and assistance in various physical activities, including daily living tasks and the use of assistive devices.
  • Ensure the continuity of therapeutic interventions by creating home exercise programs; instruct patients, families, and caregivers on these programs; recommend and supply necessary assistive equipment.
  • Foster collaboration among different healthcare disciplines within the organization to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in patient care meetings to contribute to a comprehensive approach to patient management.
  • Document evaluations, treatment goals, and plans promptly, adhering to organizational policies; ensure all records are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Manage scheduling effectively to fulfill all assignments and treatment obligations punctually.
  • Conduct visits as planned and engage in on-call duties as needed.
  • Uphold patient rights and dignity at all times.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other assigned tasks as required.
  • Adhere to all relevant organizational policies and procedures.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and organizational practices.
  • Take responsibility for reporting incidents and complaints in accordance with organizational protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of experience as an occupational therapist within the last five years.
  • Training: Completion of necessary competency assessments.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current occupational therapy license; eligibility for or successful completion of the NBCOT certification exam; CPR certification; valid driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance.

Work Environment:

This position involves working in various patient home settings, with potential exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases. Flexibility in scheduling and local travel is required, with some exposure to adverse weather conditions. The role may involve moderate noise levels and tasks that can be emotionally demanding.

Physical Demands:

Prolonged periods of standing and walking are necessary. The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist patients is required. The role necessitates working under some stress to meet deadlines, identify patient needs, and make prompt decisions. Proficiency in using durable medical equipment in home settings is essential.
