Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Control Systems Engineer II to join our team at WSSC Water. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and operating process control systems to support the efficient and safe operation of our water and wastewater treatment plants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement process control systems, including programming and testing of PLCs, HMIs, and reporting software.
  • Perform problem definition and requirements analysis, produce justification reports, and develop designs for implementing new process control loops or new control systems to optimize performance of computer-controlled processes.
  • Troubleshoot difficult control/data systems and analyze and tune difficult process control loops to optimum response and cost-effective control.
  • Recommend changes to control strategies or operational modes based on observation of control loops and represent the division in design teams for facility construction projects.
  • Participate in testing, debugging, and start-up of new processes and equipment and recommend hardware and software changes and upgrades to existing systems.
  • Review plans of projects for functional design and conformance to Commission standards, specifications, and contractual requirements and work extensively with computer-based scientific and process control programming.
  • Respond to calls to emergency situations outside of normal work hours to support WSSC Water business and participate in the Division's Emergency Duty Program.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental option), Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a related degree to industrial process control.
  • 3+ years direct control experience in the design, programming, and systems start-up as it is related to new construction and/or control equipment installation, engineering, and operations of PLC-based distributed process control and/or communication systems, or similar experience relevant to manufacturing industries or control system vendors.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, with no more than 4 points, and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • May be assigned to participate in the Division's Emergency Duty Program and will be required to respond to calls to emergency situations outside of normal work hours to support WSSC Water business.
