Job Summary

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer provides diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting. This role requires a strong understanding of ultrasound technology and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients and families to and from examination rooms, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment.
  • Explain exams to patients and families prior to the commencement of the test, ensuring cooperation and optimal test results.
  • Acquire anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician, utilizing advanced ultrasound technology.
  • Maintain patient charts and records, and record/process sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician.
  • Create preliminary reports for physician review and signature.
  • Review studies with physicians, providing expert analysis and recommendations.
  • Assist physicians with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling, demonstrating a high level of technical skill and expertise.
  • Code services performed accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain proper operation of ultrasound equipment, recognizing and addressing any malfunctions or issues promptly.
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Follow accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two-dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m-mode where applicable.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and OSHA standards, prioritizing patient and staff safety.
  • Participate in staff development, in-service workshops, and educational activities, staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in ultrasound technology and best practices.


Requirements

  • Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician working in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment, with a strong understanding of its technical capabilities and limitations.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
