Lead Specialist, Sustainable Agriculture Initiatives

About TechnoServe:
TechnoServe is dedicated to empowering individuals to create a brighter future. For over five decades, we have been at the forefront of utilizing business strategies and market opportunities to foster sustainable development and alleviate poverty.
The communities we serve are rich in entrepreneurial spirit, with small-scale agriculture and enterprises serving as the backbone of economic growth. However, these communities face significant obstacles, including limited education, restricted access to markets and employment, political instability, and the escalating impacts of climate change. Without the necessary resources to address challenges such as erratic weather, natural disasters, and agricultural diseases, these producers are at risk of diminished incomes and increased vulnerability.
In response, TechnoServe is committed to fostering a world that prioritizes people, nature, and climate. Our ambitious Regenerate 30 initiative, launched at COP27, aims to achieve transformative outcomes by 2030: enhancing resilience for 30 million individuals, mitigating or sequestering 30 million tons of CO2e, managing or conserving 30 million acres of land sustainably, and attracting $300 million in private sector investments. This initiative is projected to generate over $1 billion in benefits for smallholder farmers and businesses. Collaborating with corporate partners to revolutionize their supply chains is essential for realizing our Regenerate 30 vision.
Program Overview:
Our program, supported by a corporate commitment to protect and regenerate 1.5 million hectares of land, forests, and oceans by 2030, partners with TechnoServe to implement the Regenerative Agriculture Program. This initiative aims to inspire and assist farmers and agribusinesses in adopting regenerative production practices.
This global program, funded through 2027, presents a unique opportunity to partner with a leading organization to showcase a sustainable, low-carbon, and profitable approach to agriculture. The program will engage with the donor's suppliers across various countries and food ingredients, contributing significantly to TechnoServe's Regenerate 30 goals. Collaboration with leading regenerative agriculture experts and practitioners in farming communities worldwide will be essential to drive localized change. The program's global scope allows for the comparison of innovative regenerative practices and the sharing of insights across different contexts.
Position Summary:
TechnoServe is seeking a Senior Specialist to spearhead our collaboration with the donor, facilitating the transition to regenerative agricultural models across diverse countries and commodities. The Senior Specialist will oversee program implementation, ensuring alignment with impact objectives and donor priorities.
The role includes managing administrative and financial processes to support program operations and donor requirements, as well as coordinating with relevant stakeholders to execute assigned responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Management and Reporting:
- Coordinate the planning, execution, and evaluation of regenerative agriculture projects across multiple regions and crops.
- Develop project timelines and oversee execution to meet program objectives.
- Prepare regular technical and financial reports for stakeholders, collaborating with country controllers for donor-facing documentation.
- Communicate program successes, challenges, and lessons learned to enhance decision-making and program effectiveness.
- Document best practices and success stories from program implementation.
- Share knowledge and insights with internal teams and external partners to promote learning and replication of successful strategies.
- Respond to inquiries related to the Regenerative Agriculture Program from headquarters and other teams.
- Program Implementation:
- Facilitate meetings and workshops, including internal program meetings and updates with supplier partners and stakeholders.
- Conduct specific technical assistance activities directly with suppliers and farms.
- Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Financial Management:
- Assist the Program Director in developing annual budgets aligned with strategic work plans and deliverables, conducting regular reviews to maintain budget adherence.
- Manage financial projections and expenditure tracking in collaboration with partner suppliers.
- Oversee payment processes to suppliers and farms based on milestone achievements.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of invoices and track approved disbursements.
- Lead budget adjustments and contract modifications as necessary.
- Collaborate with finance, grants, and contracts departments to enhance financial systems and ensure compliance with donor reporting standards.
- Contract Management:
- Support the recruitment and contracting of consultants and experts as required.
- Manage contracts, sub-awards, procurement, and payment processes in accordance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
- Ensure timely execution of agreements and monitor performance of consultants and subcontractors to ensure quality outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in agriculture, development, economics, business administration, or a related field, with a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, or a master's degree with three years of experience.
- Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to anticipate needs and manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in budget management and financial analysis, including advanced Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the agriculture sector or business.
- Familiarity with contract management, procurement, and compliance with donor regulations.
- Experience working in cross-functional and multicultural teams across various regions.
- Prior involvement in EU, USDA, or USAID-funded projects is advantageous.
- Knowledge of regenerative agriculture principles and practices is highly desirable.
Required Languages: Fluency in both Spanish and English is essential; Portuguese is a plus.
Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% of the time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
- Exceptional written communication skills, with experience in producing donor-facing documents.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on identifying gaps and proposing solutions for continuous improvement.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams with strong interpersonal skills.
