Senior Attorney

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office is seeking a Senior Attorney to join our team in various divisions across the department. As a Senior Attorney, you will serve as the chief prosecutor of all adult felony and juvenile crimes in Hennepin County, providing legal counsel to the Board of Commissioners and all county departments, and representing the county government in civil lawsuits, child support matters, and child protection actions.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate the performance of assigned professional legal staff, participate in merit and disciplinary decisions, and recommend staff transfers.
- Use assigned caseload to demonstrate and teach legal skills, allocate resources, and establish policies, procedures, and priorities within the work unit.
- Schedule staff, monitor caseloads, and ensure equitable distribution of work, maintaining liaison with the courts and other public agencies as needed.
- Interpret and communicate management objectives to staff, ensuring effective working relationships and collaboration with other county departments.
- Admission to the Bar of the State of Minnesota.
- Four years or more of experience as a practicing attorney, two of which must have been in the field of public law.
- Experience in criminal prosecution, litigation, and civil counsel, or other field appropriate to the position, demonstrating leadership and/or management skills.
- Knowledge of local laws and ordinances, established precedents, and legal reference sources, as well as the principles, methods, and practices of legal research and investigation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and persuasive public speaking ability.
