Estimator/Planner for Naval Ship Repair

Job Summary

This position is responsible for creating detailed estimates and specifications for shipboard repairs and upgrades. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of naval ship repair processes and be able to effectively communicate with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and issue planning documents, procedures, and work items in accordance with applicable instructions and directives.
  • Create comprehensive estimates of costs, including production trade man-hours, subcontracts, rentals, and materials.
  • Participate in job site inspections and ship checks to verify technical information.
  • Identify all cost elements necessary for execution of work requirements.
  • Prepare requisitions for subcontracts, rentals, and material to support proposal pricing.
  • Interface with Subcontracts Group to resolve technical and schedule issues with subcontractors.
  • Prepare work breakdown structures to support proposal submittals and negotiations.
  • Establish execution approach for work requirements with project and production management.
  • Work closely with Production and Schedulers to ensure all information is represented appropriately to produce an integrated schedule.
  • Resolution of technical and schedule issues with contracts, project, and production management.
Requirements
  • Typically has a BA/BS in a related field, or AA/AS plus two (2) years directly related experience, or six (2) years directly related experience.
  • Must be familiar with working in a naval ship repair environment.
  • Knowledge of shipboard nomenclature and experience with shipboard systems, equipment, spaces, configuration, as well as labor and material costs necessary to perform repairs, upgrades, alterations, and maintenance.
  • Must possess expert ability to effectively communicate with other disciplines or groups and resolve planning conflicts.
  • Must possess the ability to read drawings, blueprints, standard items, and specifications of work items.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Navy Maintenance Database (NMD) Planning and Execution Modules.
  • Track on-going work and repairs for feedback of material and man-hour estimating effort using all cost reports and purchase order data available, plus on-site observations and direct interface with key production personnel.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Availability to work extended and weekend hours as needed.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to adapt to changing priorities. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment and to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to go on vessels.
  • Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.

Accurate, timely, and complete work specifications and estimates in support of execution.

  • Must be able to gain access to all private and government work locations and or vessels.
Pay Range

$70,720 - $92,820 Annually

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
