Job Summary

NASSCO is seeking a skilled Shipboard Planner/Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our planning and estimating department, you will be responsible for creating detailed estimates and work specifications for shipboard repairs and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create accurate and detailed estimates for shipboard repairs and maintenance
  • Develop work specifications and plans for shipboard projects
  • Collaborate with production management, scheduling, and supply chain management teams to ensure smooth project execution
  • Interface with customers and subcontractors to resolve technical and schedule issues
  • Participate in job site inspections and ship checks to verify technical information
  • Identify and track cost elements necessary for execution of work requirements
  • Prepare requisitions for subcontracts, rentals, and materials to support proposal pricing
  • Establish execution approach for work requirements with project and production management
  • Work closely with production and schedulers to ensure all information is represented appropriately to produce an integrated schedule
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or Associate's degree plus two years of directly related experience, or six years of directly related experience
  • Must be familiar with working in a naval ship repair environment
  • Knowledge of shipboard nomenclature and systems, equipment, spaces, configuration, and labor and material costs
  • Expert ability to effectively communicate with other disciplines or groups and resolve planning conflicts
  • Ability to read drawings, blueprints, standard items, and specifications of work items
  • Working knowledge of Navy Maintenance Database (NMD) Planning and Execution Modules
  • Ability to track on-going work and repairs for feedback of material and man-hour estimating effort
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to access and work with various programs to assist with development of estimates into a proper bid format
Working Conditions

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment. These areas can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.
