LaborOne Staffing is seeking experienced Outside Machinists (Repair) for a shipyard project in San Diego, California.

As an Outside Machinist, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing critical ship systems. Your expertise will ensure the smooth operation of propulsion, auxiliary systems, fluid systems, and more.

Job Summary

You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing various shipboard systems, including:

  • Steam, Turbine, Electrical, and Diesel Propulsion Systems
  • Rudders and Steering Gear
  • Elevators
  • Navy UNREP Systems
  • Fluid Systems (Pumps, Compressors, Purifiers, Heat Exchangers, Actuators, Valves)
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years of experience as an Outside Machinist or related field. Alternatively, a graduate degree from a Diesel or Aircraft Mechanic training school or three years of service in relevant Navy ratings (MM (BT), AD, CM, EN, GS, HT, or MR).
  • Strong comprehension of written and verbal instructions (in English).
Essential Job Tasks

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams.
  • Assembling and installing complex mechanical systems, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Proficiently using precision measurement tools and understanding both Imperial and Metric measuring systems.
  • Demonstrating shop mathematical skills (geometry, trigonometry, decimals, fractions).
  • Maintaining a high level of safety awareness.
  • Safely operating hand and power tools, as well as portable machining tools.
Physical Demands

This role requires:

  • Color vision.
  • Frequent to continuous lifting of machining tools and equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity.
