These core principles - integrity, patient-centered care, respect, accountability, and compassion - are essential in guiding our actions as professionals every day.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide strategic oversight and leadership for Engineering and Maintenance operations across the Health System, which includes 5 Delivery Networks and 7 inpatient campuses, encompassing approximately 11 million square feet of facilities.
2. Maintain high-level communication, both verbal and written, regarding service scopes, project updates, and adherence to timelines and budgets. Actively participate as a member of the senior leadership team to ensure the execution of all organizational strategies while building a robust network of stakeholders throughout the health system.
3. Collaborate with Senior Leadership to create and sustain system and campus-focused Master Facilities Plans on a rolling five-year basis. Regularly meet with Senior Leadership to review and update project schedules and budgets.
4. Develop, manage, and implement capital project budgets. Partner with finance leadership to formulate a long-term Capital project plan that includes a unified Project Cost Reporting and accounting system for accurate tracking of project expenditures in coordination with the Finance Department.
5. Ensure that facilities engineering services across all sites effectively maintain and repair infrastructure and equipment in a coordinated, constructive, and collaborative manner, minimizing risks and ensuring uninterrupted operations.
6. Work alongside the System Executive Director of Design and Construction to establish competitive bidding processes and oversee the selection and engagement of design professionals, engineers, outside consultants, construction managers, and contractors to ensure timely and professional project implementation.
7. Design all system facilities with a focus on environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.
8. Monitor the progress of general contractors against contract specifications and construction schedules, ensuring that all projects are completed on time and within budget while maintaining safe work environments. Address any unsafe practices promptly and ensure corrective measures are taken.
9. Optimize data analytics by ensuring data integrity and robust reporting systems to enhance operational efficiency and manage daily tasks effectively.
10. Collaborate with the System Executive Director of Engineering to schedule and coordinate all hospital agency inspections, reporting findings and following up on necessary corrective actions.
11. Minimize change orders by proactively engaging stakeholders in advance of project changes, securing senior leadership approval for unforeseen adjustments.
12. Partner with the System Executive Director of Real Estate to develop leasing strategies, oversee all real estate leases and transactions, and provide strategic advice on property acquisitions.
13. Collaborate with operational, finance, human resources, and other stakeholders to align clinical and operational objectives with strategic infrastructure and real estate projects. Empower operational leaders to achieve and exceed their goals while ensuring effective partnerships and interactions with all relevant stakeholders.
14. Oversee a team of over 300 FTEs within the department, ensuring effective performance management, talent development, staff engagement, and competency management. Maintain robust succession planning across all functions.
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is required. A Master's degree in business or a related discipline is strongly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in leading and directing large healthcare facilities.
Special Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and leadership abilities, with a proven track record in managing extensive portfolios of external vendors, overseeing competitive bidding processes, and negotiating contracts. Strong written and oral communication skills; demonstrate leadership and competency through example.
Accountability: Responsible for the strategic direction, operational, and fiscal oversight of this function.
Complexity: In personal and job-related decisions, consistently exemplify the values of integrity, patient-centered care, respect, accountability, and compassion. Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leadership, board members, medical staff, employees, and external vendors.
Licensure/Certification: CHFM and FACHE certifications are preferred.
Working Conditions:

The position requires frequent visits to construction sites, including the ability to climb stairs and ladders and carry plans and documents without assistance.
