X Energy, LLC is on the lookout for a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer who will play a pivotal role in the design and innovation of mechanical systems and components. This position encompasses the entire spectrum from conceptualization to the practical implementation of mechanical designs, ensuring compliance with all technical standards and specifications. The selected candidate will oversee the progression of these systems and components through to production, which includes prototyping, testing, and final commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate mechanical and physical concepts, while supporting the development of processes aimed at creating structural systems and components (SSCs). A strong understanding of how nuclear safety integrates with system engineering is essential for daily operations.
  • Assist team members in executing core tasks and responsibilities as outlined in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section, under guided supervision.
  • Collaborate with engineering colleagues, partners, and suppliers to streamline efforts, achieve design closure, provide design assurance, and produce high-quality engineering deliverables.
  • Identify, gather, and document relevant requirements, interfaces, design foundations, and criteria by working closely with key stakeholders and systems engineers, while also supporting the identification of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Develop and maintain CAD-generated engineering models.
  • Plan and conduct analyses to evaluate various aspects of SSCs, ensuring they meet their intended functions and adhere to technical specifications.
  • Utilize hand calculations and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other necessary computations as directed by senior engineers and systems engineers.
  • Assist in assessing SSCs for manufacturability, assembly, and integration considerations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Execute work in alignment with X Energy's quality procedures for design and configuration management to ensure project quality standards are upheld.
  • Draft and develop design documentation, including design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, and drawings, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct independent reviews and acceptance evaluations of engineering deliverables and data.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Education/Qualifications
  • Typically requires five years of experience in an engineering capacity.
    • A master's degree in engineering or a related field may substitute for two years of experience.
    • A Ph.D. in engineering or a related field may substitute for three years of experience.
    • Prior experience at X Energy exceeding performance benchmarks may also substitute for years of experience.
  • Nuclear experience in an operational plant is highly preferred.
  • A background in system design consulting is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in engineering hand calculations is essential.
  • Familiarity with analytical software focusing on structural, fluid dynamics, or thermal-hydraulic calculations is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve desired outcomes within tight deadlines.
  • Technical expertise in the fundamentals of mechanical design for structural and fluidic components, mechanisms, or manufacturing and processing equipment is preferred.
