Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Develop mechanical/physical concepts, design and support development of processes to create structures systems and components (SSCs). Understand how nuclear safety relates to system engineering and the work performed on a day-to-day occurrence.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Lead the execution of core tasks and responsibilities, collaborating with team members to produce desired outputs in short turnaround times.
  • Mentorship and Training: Teach and mentor more junior team members, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Industry Trends and Best Practices: Stay abreast of industry and academic trends, breakthroughs, and best practices, applying this knowledge to improve our design and development processes.
  • Requirements and Documentation: Identify, collect, and document applicable requirements, interfaces, design basis and criteria, coordinating with key stakeholders/systems engineers and support identifying applicable industry codes and standards.
  • CAD-Generated Engineering Models: Create and maintain CAD-generated engineering models, ensuring accuracy and precision in our design and development processes.
  • Analysis and Computation: Perform computations utilizing hand calculations and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other scoping calculations, ensuring SSCs can meet technical requirements.
  • Manufacturability and Integration: Support the assessment of SSCs for manufacturability as well as assembly and integration considerations, ensuring seamless integration into our systems.
  • Design Documentation: Write and develop design documentation, including design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, and drawings, in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Review and Acceptance: Provide independent reviews and acceptance reviews of engineering deliverables and data, ensuring quality and accuracy.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Typically, Fifteen years of experience in an engineering role required. A master's degree in engineering or related field may be in lieu of two years of experience, or a Ph.D. in engineering or related field may be in lieu of three years of experience.
  • Nuclear Experience: Nuclear experience at an operating plant is strongly preferred.
  • System Design Consulting: Background in system design consulting is preferred.
  • Engineering Hand Calculations: Proficiency with engineering hand calculations is required.
  • Analytical Software: Familiarity with analytical software with a focus on performing structural, fluid dynamics or thermal-hydraulic calculations is preferred.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Ability to collaborate in a team to produce desired outputs in short turnaround times.
  • Technical Proficiency: Technical proficiency in fundamentals of mechanical design for structural and fluidic components, mechanisms, or manufacturing & processing equipment is preferred.
