ABOUT THE ROLE:
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, the Aquatic Safety Supervisor will oversee the safety and activities of swimmers at both the indoor and outdoor pools. This role includes assisting swim instructors during lessons aimed at developing essential swimming skills for participants from local summer camps and day programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the safety of all swimmers by enforcing established pool regulations and guidelines.
- Maintain vigilant observation of patrons within the aquatic facilities.
- Alert swimmers to any unsafe practices or potential hazards.
- Prevent accidents by identifying and addressing risky situations or behaviors.
- Recognize swimmers in distress, execute appropriate rescue techniques, and provide necessary care.
- Report any incidents, rescues, or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
- Address inquiries regarding pool usage and resolve patron concerns respectfully.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow lifeguards and staff, attending necessary meetings.
- Perform additional tasks as required, including maintaining the cleanliness of the workspace and assisting with swim lessons as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Possession of current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR/FPR certifications.
- Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to successfully complete a swim test administered by the department.
- Capacity to remain calm and effective in emergency situations, following instructions and communicating clearly with the public.
- Demonstrated ability to work and engage positively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position requires frequent sitting, standing, kneeling, and reaching.
- Mobility is essential for delivering swim lessons to individuals of varying skill levels.
- Attention to visual and auditory cues is critical for identifying swimmers in distress or unsafe behaviors.
- Proficient swimming skills and the ability to apply rescue and first-aid techniques are necessary.
- Work will be conducted in a chlorinated environment with specific lighting and temperature controls.
- Reasonable accommodations will be provided to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
