Position Summary:

Under the supervision of a Nuclear Medicine Physician, the technologist is responsible for preparing, measuring, and administering radiopharmaceuticals for both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The role involves utilizing safe and efficient practices to ensure high-quality diagnostic imaging for patient care. Additionally, the technologist will provide training and orientation for new Nuclear Medicine Technologists.
In facilities where dual mode Positron Emission Technology and Computerized Tomography (PET/CT) is utilized, specific certifications are required, including State of California Certified Technologist in Nuclear Medicine and a post-primary CT certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-(CT)) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB(CT)).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct diagnostic imaging studies on patients using advanced scanning technology to capture accurate diagnostic images as directed by the Physician.
  • Prepare and administer PET radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring precise dosage calculations under the Physician's supervision.
  • Measure radioactivity with specialized equipment, ensuring proper calibration and safety protocols are followed.
  • Adhere to radiation safety guidelines in the handling and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Provide training and orientation for new PET/CT Technologists.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
  • Operate and maintain PET radiopharmaceutical infusion systems, including calibration and quality control, while troubleshooting any malfunctions.
  • Conduct Point of Care Testing (POCT) for blood glucose levels and GFR, ensuring quality control of the equipment used.
  • Execute PET/CT Simulation for radiation therapy planning.
  • Maintain knowledge of adjunct medications and their contraindications relevant to PET/CT procedures.
  • Understand exposure factors such as kVp, mA, slice thickness, and pitch.
  • Manage intravenous and oral contrast administration, including understanding indications and contraindications.
  • Review patient labs, medications, and allergies to ensure safety and efficacy.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications: Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in nuclear medicine.
Education
  • Associate's degree or completion of a JRCNMT accredited nuclear medicine program.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certificate from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must fulfill all criteria for Nuclear Medicine Technologist II.
  • Must possess State of California Certified Technologist in Nuclear Medicine (RHN).
  • Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine (ARRT (N)) or certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT).
  • Proven ability to perform all required procedures and processes as determined by the employer.
  • Strong reading and comprehension skills for instructions and correspondence, along with effective writing abilities.
  • Capability to present information clearly to diverse audiences regarding Nuclear Medicine services.
  • Willingness to work within a Labor Management Partnership environment.
  • Refer to position specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
