Overview of the Unit

8 Central Medical is a dynamic 41-bed unit where nursing professionals provide care for patients with diverse medical conditions as well as surgical patients facing medical challenges. This environment fosters significant learning opportunities, allowing nurses to enhance their clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities while collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team to address the needs of complex medical patients. The unit actively promotes a Professional Nurse Council, enabling staff nurses to participate in decision-making through a Shared Governance Model.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN), adhering to the ANA scope of practice, employs the nursing process framework to deliver professional nursing care. This includes integrating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients. The RN is responsible for providing high-quality patient care under the guidance of the Nurse Leader, in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures, while recognizing the influence of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on health outcomes. The RN collaborates with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into the care plan and develops appropriate educational strategies, documenting all learning in the health record.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or Diploma in Nursing is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required within five years for new graduates or RNs with less than one year of experience.
  • Graduates from non-accredited nursing programs must have at least one year of acute care experience or two years in a licensed healthcare role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license is required, with new graduates expected to obtain it within 60 days of hire.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire.

Work Schedule

This position is full-time, with night shifts scheduled from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, working variable days and every third weekend.
