POSITION SUMMARY

A Police Officer assigned to Patrol operates under the direct supervision of the Patrol Commander and Patrol Sergeant. The Patrol Officer is sworn to enforce all laws and ordinances for which the Department is responsible; to protect the lives and property of all persons; and to maintain peace and order within the Village of Mundelein. The Patrol Officer will provide necessary services that align with the Department's mission and objectives.

The Patrol Officer will take appropriate police actions, within the limits of legal authority, whenever and wherever required. Professional decorum and a proper attitude are expected in all interactions with citizens, superiors, and other Department personnel. The Patrol Officer must understand and comply with the orders, directives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Mundelein Police Department.

GENERAL APPLICANT INFORMATION

Training: Candidates will undergo a field training process upon hiring.

Work Schedule: Police officers typically work an average of eighty hours per two-week period, amounting to 2,080 hours annually. Currently, the patrol division operates on 12-hour shifts, which are re-bid annually.

Direct Deposit: Participation in the Village's direct deposit program is required for all employees hired after the specified date.

Benefits: The Village of Mundelein offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees and their dependents, including sick leave, hospitalization, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, dental insurance, and health club memberships. Vacation and holiday benefits are also included.

Deferred Compensation Plan: Full-time Village employees may participate in a Deferred Compensation Plan provided by MissionSquare Retirement.

Police Pension: All sworn police officers are eligible to apply for participation in the Mundelein Police Pension Fund. Written application to the Pension Board is required within three months of appointment to the sworn position.

Uniforms: The Village will issue uniforms to personnel required to wear them. Officers who separate from the Police Department before completing their initial three-year period must reimburse the Village for uniform costs.

Wage/Salary Rates: Salary rates are structured based on years of service, with annual increments.

Vacation Eligibility: Employees are eligible for vacation days based on their years of continuous service.

Holidays: Full-time police officers receive floating holidays and regular holidays.

Requirements: Applicants for lateral appointment must meet the following qualifications:

  • State of Illinois certification or waiver by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
  • Legal residency in the United States.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Previous full-time sworn Police Officer experience within the last two years.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to comply with all position requirements and pass examinations and training.
  • Ability to provide requested documentation related to employment and qualifications.
