Job Overview

We are seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Project Coordination Assistant at Walker Engineering, Inc.

This position involves gaining insight into project management techniques and familiarizing oneself with organizational systems while executing various administrative tasks in support of assigned projects. Under the guidance of a supervisor, you will set objectives and complete designated responsibilities within established timelines and budgetary constraints.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Engage in the analysis of construction documents to create clear and consistent interpretations.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the materials, tools, and components of the technical systems utilized by Walker Engineering.
  • Notify project management of potential challenges, work disruptions, scheduling issues, and similar concerns related to your responsibilities. Learn how to navigate and resolve these challenges effectively.
  • Draft and revise correspondence, memos, reports, and procedures as instructed.
  • Handle daily administrative tasks (such as expense reports, supply requests, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, procurement, and quantity take-offs) as directed by your supervisor.
  • Compile special reports, studies, and statistical analyses upon request from your supervisor, which may involve research and data interpretation with minimal supervision.
  • Learn to interpret project timelines, anticipate workforce needs, and evaluate subcontractor performance.
  • Assist in researching and preparing field change requests to address design challenges.
  • Contribute to the ongoing updating and accurate creation of as-built documentation.
  • Attend project coordination meetings and discussions with owners, contractors, architects, and engineers as directed.
  • Take an active role in your professional development. Utilize available resources within Walker Engineering and seek additional training to become a proficient project manager.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by your supervisor.

Travel Requirements: 0 - 25% (may vary significantly among individuals in this position)

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Science (or equivalent technical training and relevant construction experience)

  • 0-2 years of experience in construction and/or general business
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Proficient in MS Office and eager to learn new software applications
  • Must obtain OSHA-30 certification within six months of hire
  • Professional, courteous, diplomatic, and highly motivated demeanor
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from collaborating with Walker's partner General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role operates in a project environment with interaction among employees, subcontractors, and trades.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee frequently stands, walks, uses hands for various tasks, and reaches with hands and arms.

This role allows access to all areas of a construction site in diverse climates and environments.

Ability to comprehend spatial forms and understand the relationships of two and three-dimensional objects, which may be applied in tasks such as blueprint reading and solving geometric problems.

Ability to handle materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. frequently.

Ability to ascend or descend using hands or feet, including:

Ladders - Step stool, 8' to 10' ladder, extension ladder

Stairways - 3 or more flights

Ability to bend forward or down from the waist or back, frequently moving between 20-50 times daily.

Ability to extend or reach bodily parts to touch or grasp items, performing these actions up to 50 times daily.

Ability to perceive or comprehend through sight, including focus, color perception, and depth perception.

Ability to operate or convey in a vehicle, including cars and commercial vehicles.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; typical workdays are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Education and Qualifications

High School Diploma

A degree in Construction Management or Project Management or equivalent experience.
