Economics Department Financial Operations Specialist

Job Description:
This role supports students, staff, and faculty by managing all administrative and financial needs, including leadership and faculty support for approximately 30 full-time, affiliated, or visiting faculty members. The successful candidate will leverage their experience in fiscal administration and daily office operations to advance the goals of this academic unit.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Fiscal and Administrative Support: Provide accurate processing of travel reimbursements, payments, and scholarships for the Chair, Associate Chair, faculty, and office.
- Department Indexes and Budget Planning: Verify accounting entries, balance monthly expenditures against the budget, maintain tracking spreadsheets, and assist in budget planning by providing financial reviews of resources, which include state, grant, overhead, gift, and endowment funds.
- Transaction Facilitation: Assist with procurement of equipment and services, including computer equipment for faculty and staff.
- Equipment Inventory Coordination: Serve as the department's equipment inventory coordinator.
- Event Planning and Logistics: Assist with event planning and logistics throughout the year.
- Administrative and Faculty Personnel Services: Provide processes for merit review, promotion, and tenure while ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Goal Setting and Prioritization: Identify administrative goals and priorities, emphasizing budget tracking.
- Policy Interpretation and Communication: Interpret new directives, policies, and procedures, communicating changes to appropriate staff.
- Hiring and Timesheet Management: Oversee the hiring of student assistants, ensuring timesheets are completed and approved in a timely manner.
Salary and Benefits:
The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. William & Mary offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
